Abstract: Early maturing rice varieties are predominantly grown in favorable uplands in rice-tobacco and rice-maize sequences. Attitudes of farmers about varieties have subtly changed. Farmers now prefer higher quality grain varieties, mainly as a result of food sufficiency.
